Boston police arrested two people while patrolling during the city’s Celtics Championship parade, which crowded the downtown area with thousands of fans.
At around 11 a.m. Friday, police said a man climbed a city light post, which stands nearly 20 feet high, and stood on the banner holder stick, according to the department’s police report.
Multiple officers told the man to get down from the post “for his safety and others in the crowd” but he shook his head and said no, police said. Officers then climbed over the barrier, and the man jumped off the pole, breaking the banner holder off of the pole. The man was then warned by police that he would be arrested if he attempted to climb the pole again.
Other officers on the parade route said they found the same man climbing another light pole on Tremont Street, opposite of West Street. About 30 minutes later, he climbed the light pole again.
Officers asked the man to safely climb down, where the man once again told the officers no. Once he jumped down, an officer grabbed him, when he “attempted to flee into the crowd,” the police report states.
The man was arrested and charged for disorderly conduct and for vandalizing property, Boston police reported. He was sent to Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, and police suspected that the man was intoxicated.
At around 2 p.m. Friday, an officer saw a large group of women fighting in front of Boston Public Library, the report reads.
Police arrested one woman as the group dispersed.
One of the individuals involved returned back to the scene to grab her purse and told an officer that four years ago she had “beef” with the woman that was arrested at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. She then went on to say that when she saw her earlier, the woman “started trash talking” when an officer separated them and told them both to go their separate ways earlier in the day.
Later in the day, she said that they bumped into each other again resulting in her being “jumped,” police said.
Visible scratches were found on her nose and forehead. Those same markings were also found on the woman who police arrested when she was sent to District D4 for booking. The woman police arrested was charged for affray and assault and battery.
