A church that is more than 150 years old is for sale in Chicopee with its original stained glass windows, pews and pipe organ.
Chicopee’s Third Congregational Church, located on Springfield Street, was built in 1867 after the demolition of another church that had been built in 1837. It was built by Charles Edward Parker, a Boston-based architect who also designed the Chicopee City Hall.
It is listed for $200,000 by Petraglia Real Estate Services, who specialize in older, antique and historic homes and buildings.
The current owners, Christ Community Church, hope that the building will find a new owner who can restore the historic church, according to John Petraglia of Petraglia Real Estate Services.
It has nearly 10,000 square feet and includes a main sanctuary, a stage, kitchen, lofty cathedral height ceilings and three bathrooms. It is located in the city’s historic district.
It is in need of a full restoration, according to the listing. But has multiple historic details, including the original stained glass windows, woodwork, flooring, pews and pipe organ.
The church is also listed as one of the tour stops by Historical Tours of Greater Holyoke.
