A 15-year-old boy was arrested in Dorchester on Sunday after Boston Police recovered a large knife following an incident where police say the teen and a group of people stole a moped from a female in Boston.
Boston police officers said they went near 86 Southern Ave. in Dorchester on Sunday for a report of a robbery in progress at about 4:16 p.m. Police said they were told at the scene that a group of people tried to take the victim’s moped, and one of the suspects was grabbing at his waistband, which made the victim think he was armed.
The suspect also stole the female’s moped and drove a “short distance,” before crashing it, and a second suspect stole the victim’s bag, police said.
Police said they searched the area and saw the group fleeing down Southern Avenue. One of the suspects was clutching his waistband while he ran toward the back of 60 Southern Ave. Police officers ran after the suspects.
Officers said they saw a teenage boy throw an unknown item over a fence. Police arrested the unidentified teen, put him in handcuffs and found a discarded large kitchen knife.
The 15-year-old boy was charged with being a delinquent to witness and armed robbery, police said. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
