15-year-old among 6 charged with murder in connection with Lynn drive-by shooting

A 15-year-old is among a group of six people each facing two charges of murder in connection with a drive-by shooting in Lynn last fall that left two people dead and five injured.

The 15-year-old, identified by prosecutors as Leonardo Espinoza, of Lynn, is charged along with Justin Alba, 25, of Peabody; and Darwin Batista, 20; Yefferson Vallecillo Cambar, 22; Carlos Ramirez Corniel, 16 and Abel Severino Reyes, 21, all of whom live in Lynn. The charges stem from a shooting on Sept. 2, 2023 at 189 Essex St. in Lynn and left Jandriel Heredia, 21, of Revere, and Abraham Diaz, 25, of Lynn dead, according to Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker’s office.

Espinoza is charged as an adult despite his age because since 1996, Massachusetts law has dictated that all children over the age of 14 charged with first or second-degree murder proceed through the state’s court system as any other murder case would.
