A 14-year-old boy who disappeared near Benedict Pond on Wednesday afternoon was found unresponsive in the water and later pronounced dead at a hospital, according to Great Barrington Police.
A 911 caller reported they could not find a 14-year-old who was previously at the beach area of the Great Barrington pond around 1:50 p.m. Wednesday, Great Barrington Police Chief Paul E. Storti said in a statement. The 14-year-old, whose name was not released, was then found unresponsive in the water and pulled out of the pond by several people in the area. CPR was started on the boy.
First responders took the boy to Fairview Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the statement.
