An 11-month-old infant found unresponsive inside his mother’s car on Tuesday in Lexington had likely been in the vehicle for an “extended period of time,” officials revealed.
The boy was found in a Massachusetts Avenue daycare parking lot around 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 13, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lexington Chief of Police Michael McLean said in a joint statement. First responders rushed the child to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators believe the boy never entered the daycare on the day of his death and “may have been in the car for an extended period of time,” according to the statement. The boy would have turned 1 on Aug. 31.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of the boy’s death.
An investigation into the boy’s death is ongoing.
“It’s a tragedy for this family. It’s a tragedy for this community,” Lexington Fire Chief Derek Sencabaugh said in a video on X posted by a WHDH reporter.
