New England Jamaican restaurant among Yelp’s best spots for Caribbean food

New Englanders don’t have to travel to the Caribbean to get top-tier food from the region.

Yelp recently compiled a list of their community managers’ picks for the best Caribbean eats across the country. Among these spots was Jamaican restaurant Yardie Ting in Portland, Maine.

“Under the guidance of owner Shanna-Kay Wright, the restaurant offers a diverse menu that includes jerk chicken, oxtails, curry goat, and the popular Mac-Ox Bowl—a hearty combination of oxtail and mac and cheese,” Yelp wrote. “The establishment is known for its flavorful dishes, generous portions, friendly service, and authentic taste of Jamaican cuisine.”

Yardie Ting has a 4.3 out of 5-star rating on Yelp. Reviewers especially praised the restaurant’s Mac and cheese, loaded fries, jerk chicken and plantains.

“No bland food here,” one Yelp reviewer wrote. “If you want to take all the flavors to the next level, extra side jerk sauce! Staff was very polite and received my food quickly.”

Yardie Ting is located on the second floor of Portland’s Public Market House at 28 Monument Square. The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
