Man killed in early-morning crash in Boston tunnel Friday

A man in his 70s was killed when his car crashed in the Sumner Tunnel in Boston early Friday morning, Massachusetts State Police said.

Troopers responded to the crash, which happened where the tunnel meets Interstate 93 North at Government Center, around 3:30 a.m. Friday. The man became trapped in his car as a result of the crash, state police said in a statement.

The man was removed from the car and taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was pronounced dead.

State police did not immediately identify the man. The crash remains under investigation.
