Not only has Rafael Devers struggled since the Red Sox traded him to San Francisco on June 15, but the Giants also have played poorly.
Devers is batting .226 with a .746 OPS, while San Francisco, which was 10 games over .500 (41-31) at the time of the trade, has gone 22-37 with him and is now five games under .500 (63-68).
Below is a look at how Devers and all the players who the Red Sox have traded during the 2025 season are doing with their new teams.
Ex-Red Sox players traded during 2025 season:
Quinn Priester, Brewers: The 24-year-old righty is 11-2 with a 3.44 ERA, 4.36 FIP, 1.26 WHIP and .242 batting average against in 24 outings (19 starts). He has 104 strikeouts and 45 walks in 128 ⅓ innings. His 3.88 expected ERA ranks in the 52nd percentile. He’s in the 23rd percentile in chase percentage (26.0%) while his groundball percentage (57.7%) is in the 96th percentile.
Boston traded Priester to Milwaukee on April 7 for prospects Yophery Rodriguez and John Holobetz as well as a competitive balance draft pick, which they used to take Tennessee righty Marcus Phillips 33rd overall in the 2025 MLB Draft.
Sean Newcomb, Athletics: The Red Sox traded the lefty to the Athletics for cash on May 27 after designating him for assignment. He has pitched well in 29 relief outings (42 innings) for the A’s, posting a 1.71 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, .211 batting average against, 43 strikeouts and 11 walks. Newcomb — a Brockton native who graduated from Middleborough High — began the season in Boston’s starting rotation.
Rafael Devers, Giants: The 28-year-old is batting .226 with a .336 on-base percentage, .410 slugging percentage, .746 OPS, 10 homers, 10 doubles, 25 RBIs, 25 runs, 35 walks and 76 strikeouts in 59 games (256 plate appearances) since the Red Sox dealt him to the Giants on June 15 for Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison and prospects James Tibbs III and Jose Bello.
James Tibbs III, Dodgers (Double A): The Red Sox traded Tibbs — who they initially acquired from the Giants in the Devers trade — to the Dodgers for starting pitcher Dustin May right before the July 31 trade deadline. The 22-year-old is batting .257 (18-for-70) with a .429 on-base percentage, .414 slugging percentage, .843 OPS, three homers, two doubles, 16 RBIs, 14 runs, 18 walks and 20 strikeouts in 19 games for Double-A Tulsa.
Zach Ehrhard, Dodgers (Double A): The 22-year-old outfielder was traded to the Dodgers with Tibbs for May. He’s batting .296 (21-for-71) with a .395 on-base percentage, .493 slugging percentage, .888 OPS, two homers, six doubles, one triple, 11 RBIs, 16 runs, 11 walks, nine strikeouts and four steals in 18 games for Double-A Tulsa.
Blaze Jordan, Cardinals (Triple A): Boston sent Jordan to St. Louis for reliever Steven Matz. The 22-year-old corner infielder has struggled for Triple-A Memphis, batting .129 (9-for-70) with a .160 on-base percentage, .243 slugging percentage, .403 OPS, two homers, two doubles, 16 RBIs, seven runs, two walks and six strikeouts in 17 games.
Blake Sabol, White Sox (Triple A): Boston traded the 27-year-old catcher to the White Sox on July 12 for cash considerations after designating him for assignment and outrighting him to Worcester. He has a .271/.352/.521/.873 line with three homers, three doubles, 13 RBIs, eight runs, four walks and 18 strikeouts in 14 games (54 plate appearances) for Triple-A Charlotte.
Jorge Alcala, Cardinals: The Cardinals claimed the 30-year-old hard-throwing righty off waivers from Boston on Aug. 7. He has made five appearances for St. Louis, allowing one run, four hits and one walk while striking out three in 4 ⅓ innings.
Zach Penrod, Dodgers (Triple A): The Red Sox traded the 28-year-old lefty to the Dodgers for cash on June 20 after they designated him assignment. He has allowed 12 earned runs in 20 innings (5.40 ERA) over 13 outings (two starts) for Triple-A Oklahoma City. He has given up 22 hits and 18 walks while striking out 12.
Brian Van Belle, Rays: Boston traded the 28-year-old righty to the Reds for cash on June 14 after designating him for assignment. The Reds then traded him to the Rays with lefty Adam Serwinowski for Zach Littell on July 30. Tampa promoted him Aug. 22 after he had a 2.04 ERA (17 ⅔ innings, four runs) in three starts for Triple-A Durham. He made his MLB debut on Sunday in Tampa’s 7-2 win over the Cardinals, allowing one run, three hits and no walks while striking out two over 2 ⅓ innings.
