A Massachusetts man is facing a dozen charges after officials say he broke into a 70-year-old’s home and strangled a sleeping woman.
Roger Bolens, 25, of Augusta, Maine, was arraigned Thursday in Essex County Superior Court. He pleaded not guilty to home invasion, breaking and entering in the nighttime for the purpose of committing a felony, assault and battery on a person over 60 years of age, four counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, armed assault with intent to murder on a person over 60, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery and attempt to commit crime (strangulation).
On July 26, Bolens attempted to strangle a 19-year-old woman in the restroom of an Andover restaurant, according to Essex District Attorney Paul F. Tucker‘s office. Hours later, authorities say that he broke into an Andover woman’s home. While she was sleeping, he strangled and assaulted the woman in her 70s, leaving her with serious injuries.
Bolens is being held pending a dangerousness hearing that was scheduled for Nov. 21.
